With a governor who opposes abortion in their corner, and Republican majorities in the House and Senate, social conservatives in the Maine Legislature hope to make some modifications to the state's abortion laws this year with a handful of bills that have been referred to the Judiciary Committee. The measures range from requiring women seeking abortions to be told about abortion alternatives to the imposition of a 24-hour waiting period before an abortion can be obtained.
