Maine Labor Advocates Rally to Preserve 120-Year-Old Legislative Committee

Representatives of organized labor in Maine turned out at the State House today to oppose a move by Republican lawmakers to replace the 120-year-old Labor Committee with a new joint standing panel known as the Jobs Committee. Republicans say that merging the oversight of labor issues with those assigned to the Business, Research and Economic Development Committee will result in a more efficient and informed process that will benefit both labor and management in Maine. But union representatives dismiss the claim as an assault on workers.
